Wanita Muslimah

(Ar-Rahman :70) Beliau menjawab, “Akhla

Cause and effect Essay Definition: In this kind of essay, the aim is to explain the causes (reasons) or the effects (results) of an event or situation. e.g. Causes of air pollution (multiple factors leading to air pollution). e.g. Effects of watching too much TV (many effects of a situation). Sometimes an event causes something to happen, and that situation leads to another event, and it causes another event to happen. This is called the causal chain or domino effect. e.g. Use of deodorants will bring the end of the world. There may be several causes or effects of a situation. However, in a student essay, it is advisable to keep the number of major points to 2 or 3, which form separate developmental paragraphs. Phonetic Transcription     The sounds of English and the International Phonetic Alphabet This chart contains all the sounds (phonemes) used in the English language. For each sound, it gives: The symbol from the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), as used in phonetic transcriptions in modern dictionaries for English learners — that is, in A. C. Gimson’s phonemic system with a few additional symbols. The chart represents British and American phonemes with one symbol. One symbol can mean two different phonemes in American and British English. See the footnotes for British-only and American-only symbols. Two English words which use the sound. The underline shows where the sound is heard. The links labeled Amer and Brit play sound recordings (Flash is required) where the words are pronounced in American and British English. The British version is given only where it is very different from the American version. To print the chart, use the printable PDF

Phonology

What is phonology? Discussion   The phonological system of a language includes   an inventory of sounds and their features, and rules which specify how sounds interact with each other.   Phonology is just one of several aspects of language. It is related to other aspects such as phonetics, morphology, syntax, and pragmatics.   Here is an illustration that shows the place of phonology in an interacting hierarchy of levels in linguistics:   Comparison: Phonology and phonetics   Phonetics … Phonology … Is the basis for phonological analysis. Is the basis for further work in morphology, syntax, discourse, and orthography design. Analyzes the production of all human speech sounds, regardless of language. Analyzes the sound patterns of a particular language by determining which phonetic sounds are significant, and explaining how these sounds are interpreted by the native speaker. FREYTAG'S PYRAMID :  A diagram of dramatic structure, one which shows complication and emotional tension rising like one side of a pyramid toward its apex, which represents the climax of action. Once the climax is over, the descending side of the pyramid depicts the decrease in tension and complication as the drama reaches its conclusion and denouement . A sample chart is available to view. Freytag designed the chart for discussing tragedy , but it can be applied to many kinds of fiction. FREYTAG'S TRIANGLE : Another term for Freytag's Pyramid (see above). Freytag's Pyramid

Dramatic structure   History In his Poetics the Greek philosopher Aristotle put forth the idea that "'ολον δε εστιν το εχον αρχην και μεσον και τελευτην" (1450b27) ("A whole is what has a beginning and middle and end"(1450b27)). [ 1 ] This three-part view of a plot structure (with a beginning, middle, and end – technically, the protasis , epitasis , and catastrophe ) prevailed until the Roman drama critic Horace advocated a 5-act structure in his Ars Poetica : "Neue minor neu sit quinto productior actu fabula" (lines 189-190) ("A play should not be shorter or longer than five acts"). [ 2 ] After falling into disuse, Renaissance dramatists revived the use of the 5-act structure. In 1863, around the time that playwrights like Henrik Ibsen were abandoning the 5-act structure and experimenting with 3 and 4-act plays, the German playwright and novelist Gustav Freytag wrote Die Technik des Dramas , a definitive study of the 5-

Catastrophe (drama) In drama , particularly the tragedies of classical antiquity , the catastrophe is the final resolution in a poem or narrative plot, which unravels the intrigue and brings the piece to a close. In comedies, this may be a marriage between main characters ; in tragedies, it may be the death of one or more main characters. It is the final part of a play, following the protasis , epitasis , and catastasis . The catastrophe is either simple or complex, for which also the fable and action are denominated. In a simple catastrophe, there is no change in the state of the main characters, nor any discovery or unravelling; the plot being only a mere passage out of agitation, to quiet and repose. This catastrophe is rather accommodated to the nature of the epic poem, than of the tragedy. [ 1 ] In a complex catastrophe, the main character undergoes a change of fortune, sometimes by means of a discovery, and sometimes without. The qualifications of this change

Soliloquy   A soliloquy (from Latin: "talking by oneself") is a device often used in drama whereby a character speaks to himself or herself, relating his or her thoughts and feelings, thereby also sharing them with the audience. Other characters however are not aware of what is being said. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] A soliloquy is distinct from a monologue or an aside : a monologue is a speech where one character addresses other characters; an aside is a (usually short) comment by one character towards the audience. Soliloquies were frequently used in dramas but went "out of fashion" when drama shifted towards realism in the late 18th and 19th century. Soliloquies in Shakespeare The plays of William Shakespeare feature many soliloquies, the most famous being the " To be or not to be " speech in Hamlet . In Richard III and Othello , the respective villains use soliloquies to entrap the audience as they do the characters on stage. Macbeth's &qu

Definition of Absurd Drama The play on the stage is what it is without before or after, the action is pure and complete and immediately viewed by the audience. Drama is a genre of literature in which the text and performance both have equal importance. It is true that firstly the ideas of the dramatist are penned down in the form of text and performance comes secondly. A new form of drama made its appearance that disqualified all the standards and rules by which a drama has been appreciated from many centuries and was classified under the label ‘The Theatre of the Absurd'. Marking the difference between a good play and an absurd play, Martin Esslin opines: If a good play must have a cleverly constructed story, these have no story or plot to speak of : if a good play is judged by subtlety of characterization and motivation, these are often without recognizable characters and present the audience with almost mechanical puppets; if a good play has to have a fully exp

a theme is the central topic, subject, or concept the author is trying to point out, not to be confused with whatever message, moral, or commentary it may send or be interpreted as sending regarding said concept (i.e., its inferred "thesis"). While the term "theme" was for a period used to reference "message" or "moral," literary critics now rarely employ it in this fashion, [ citation needed ] namely due to the confusion it causes regarding the common denotation of theme: "[t]he subject of discourse, discussion, conversation, meditation, or composition; a topic." The play version of Susan Glaspell's "A Jury of Her Peers" is called Trifles . What do both titles suggest about the theme? Suspense is a feeling of uncertainty and anxiety about the outcome of certain actions, most often referring to an audience's perceptions in a dramatic work. Suspense is not exclusive to fiction, though. Suspense may

ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAYS Definition : In this kind of essay, we not only give information but also present an argument with the PROS (supporting ideas) and CONS (opposing ideas) of an argumentative issue. We should clearly take our stand and write as if we are trying to persuade an opposing audience to adopt new beliefs or behavior. The primary objective is to persuade people to change beliefs that many of them do not want to change. Supporting our ideas : This is the most important part when persuading others. We are asking some people to change their beliefs or actions. We should be supporting our ideas with such facts, statistics and/or authorities that there should not be room for any doubts. Here are some faulty supports we should avoid: Sample argumentative essay : HEALTH AND HEALING AT YOUR FINGERTIPS Throw out the bottles and boxes of drugs in your house. A new theory suggests that medicine could be bad for your health, which should at least come as good news t
